** LOOKING FOR GREAT VIDEO COMPRESSION SETTINGS? SCROLL DOWN! **
*** WANT TO LEARN HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS? SCROLL DOWN! ***
Hi everybody!
For ACT vets -- hope you like the new look! The routine's staying the same... write a report EVERY FRIDAY about your week's learnings. This term expect less mercy if you forget to assign multiple categories or (heaven forbid!) forget to write at all. Review the list below, so you're not surprised at grading time.
For ACT newbies -- the weekly blog is what I use to GRADE you in this class. I love it because I get to hear what everyone is thinking and doing, and I use the Comment feature to give each student feedback and support.
If you'd like to get an "A" in this class, read this list carefully and do everything on it!!
1. Show up on time, get right to work and focus for the whole period.
2. Use each day to make substantial progress toward your learning goals.
3. Pursue something about which you feel passionate. If you lose interest, make new goals. PUSH yourself!! Fill the "in between" times with more exploration, not waiting.
4. If you do a lot of your work at home, that's fine, but I'll still expect you to use your class time just as meaningfully as anyone else.
5. Use learning materials, tutorials, lessons, books, i.e. "teachers" -- it's extra work, but extra learning.
6. On the other hand, if you use tutorials, be sure to APPLY the knowledge in accordance with your own, original ideas, so the learning is meaningful.
7. If you hit a snag (technical or motivational), talk to Mary and let her help!
8. Write a serious, succinct report every Friday. Include details and, if you can TEACH us something you learned, through the blog. (Putting things into words and teaching others are great ways to enhance your own learning.)
9. Include evidence of your learning if at all possible (learn how to save and/or convert files so they can be added to the blog).
10. Absolutely, positively use Assign Multiple Categories to link your post to your name AND the date!!
Most importantly, follow in the footsteps of previous ACT students and ENJOY YOURSELF!!
~Mary
** GREAT VIDEO COMPRESSION SETTINGS **
If you are needing to make your movie files smaller so that you can post them on this blog, or to YouTube, here are the settings to use after you open the movie in QuickTime Pro:
1. After choosing "Export" and "MP4"
2. After pressing "Video Options"
3. In "Audio" pane:
Using these settings, I was able to convert Jon Hepler's 230 MB video remix to a 6 MB file that looks good!!
*** HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND SAVE A VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE (ON A MAC) ***
1. In the SAFARI web browser, locate the YouTube video you want to save.
2. Press command-option-A. This brings up the "Activity" window in Safari.
3. Look through the Activity list and find the one that is downloading the video (it's growing in size, and will likely grow to something around 5 MB).
4. Double-click that file to download it to your computer (you don't need to wait for it to load fully for this to work).
5. The download window will show you what it's called; likely "get_video"
6. Search your computer for the file (mine put it in the Downloads folder).
7. Change the filename to something more descriptive AND ADD .FLV TO THE END of the filename.
8. Open the video with VLC player. (If you have Perian installed, you can open it with QuickTime... and with QuickTime Pro you can edit it!)
